Faculty Research Opportunities

Advancing NASA’s Mission Through Collaborative Faculty Research and Experiential Learning.

Autonomous Vehicle Challenge

Innovate, Design, Compete.

The Arkansas Space Grant Consortium (ASGC), a participant in the National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program (NSGCFP), invites faculty-led student teams from Arkansas institutions of higher education to apply for the Autonomous Vehicle Challenge. This project offers a design experience at the cutting edge of engineering education. It is multidisciplinary, theory-based, hands-on, team-implemented, outcome assessed, and based on product realization. It encompasses the latest technologies impacting industrial development and taps subjects of high interest to students. Teams will design and construct an autonomous vehicle during two semesters in preparation for a competition hosted by an ASGC affiliate.

Collaborative Research Program (CRP)

The Arkansas Space Grant Consortium (ASGC), a participant in the National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program (NSGCFP), invites researchers to apply for the Arkansas NASA Collaborative Research Program. This program provides seed funding in aerospace-related fields of interest to NASA Centers or aerospace industries, particularly encouraging faculty from traditionally underrepresented groups. The program’s goal is to support workforce development and increase statewide academic involvement in space research, technology development, engineering, and education by fostering collaboration between at least two ASGC affiliate campuses.

Eligibility Requirements:

Faculty:

  • Research proposals from Principal Investigators (PI) who are U.S. citizens may include direct support funds (e.g., salary, travel).

  • Non-U.S. citizen PIs may be selected for funding (based on reviews) but cannot receive direct support (e.g., salary, travel, etc.).

  • Non-U.S. citizens may receive support from their universities, but these funds cannot be used as cost-share for the award.

Students:

  • Must be U.S. citizens (permanent residents are not eligible).

  • Pursuing a degree in a STEM-related field.

  • Enrolled as a full-time student at an ASGC-affiliated campus.

  • In good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).
